Parent Involvement Policy

I. Little Milligan Elementary Parent Involvement Policy
a. Little Milligan Title I will hold an annual parent meeting for the purpose of explaining the Title I program and making parents aware of their right to be involved in the program.
b. Little Milligan will form a School Advisory Council (SAC) and one parent will be asked to serve on the District Advisory Council (DAC).
c. The DAC will familiarize parents with procedures for designing, implementing and evaluating the success of the school Title I plan.
d. The DAC representative and Carter County Parent Involvement Coordinator will be responsible for providing information to Little Milligan Title I parents for their support, input, and involvement in developing a school Title I Parent Involvement Plan.
e. Little Milligan parents will be given the opportunity to review the Parent Involvement Plan and make suggestions.
f. The DAC will use parent suggestions to develop a Title I Parent Involvement Plan and all parents will receive a copy of Little Milligan's Involvement Plan.

II. Other Services Offered
a. The Carter County Schools will assist Little Milligan Title I parents in obtaining materials and other resources needed to encourage parent involvement.
b. The Parent Involvement Coordinator will make available a variety of materials (books, videos, pamphlets, games, etc.) for parents use.
c. Little Milligan will provide opportunities for the participation of parents with limited English proficiency, disabilities, and migrant to the extent practicable.

III. Parents as Partners in Education
a. All Little Milligan Elementary School teachers will be available for conferences three nights during each school year. Faculty will also be available for meetings that are scheduled at a convenient time for both parents and teachers. These meetings will meet the needs of those parents who are unable to attend regularly scheduled conferences. Little Milligan is committed to providing a flexible schedule for all parents and teachers for meetings. Parents will be encouraged to ask questions pertaining to their student's performance in the classroom and any concerns the parent might have. Parents will also be encouraged to ask questions pertaining to the Title I Program. Parents will be encouraged to keep ongoing communication with teachers.
b. Newsletters, handbooks, and progress reports will be sent home.
c. Parent/Teacher/Student Compacts will be reviewed by all parties involved.
d. Parents will be notified of workshops and training sessions held by the county or district.

IV. Title I Involvement with Other Programs
a. An annual workshop will be held involving GED, Title I, Headstart, Special Education, Drug Free Parents, Teachers, Administrators, and a number of other agencies in the area to share ideas and information.

V. Evaluation of Little Milligan's Parent Involvement Policy
a. Parents and classroom teachers will be surveyed in the spring to determine the effectiveness of the involvement policy.
b. The evaluation results will be used to determine any changes needed in the policy.

VI. Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Parent Involvement Policy
a. The school's Title I Advisory Council will evaluate the effectiveness of the Parent Involvement Policy.
b. Title I parents will be involved in making any necessary revisions in the involvement policy.
c. Strategies for revising the Carter County Parent Involvement Policy will come from a summary of the parent involvement policies from each school having a Title I program.

VII. School/Parent/Student Compact
a. The school/parent/student compact will be explained through meetings, phone calls or written communication as needed.
b. All teachers, parents, and students will be asked to review the compact.
