Hampton Middle School STAR Reward Program
Hampton Elementary School (grades 5-8) is currently utilizing a STAR card program, which is a school-wide positive behavior support. We have four target areas for this program: Safety First, Totally Responsible, Attitude Matters, and Respect Everyone. Students that display these behaviors and turn in their STAR cards are eligible for weekly prize drawings, reward periods, and quarterly celebrations. By teaching positive social skills and responsibility, teachers are able to minimize behavioral disturbances and maximize instructional time.
With the short time the STAR program has been in place at Hampton Elementary, the school climate is already transforming. Students look forward to receiving a STAR card and to hearing their name called for having won a weekly prize. While previously some of our students received recognition for extra-curricular activities at school, many of our students were left out. With the STAR program, every student has ample opportunity for recognition. Furthermore, programs, like the STAR program, allow students to feel ownership of their school. |
